Nature is Home

When we’re in observation with the outer world, all too often we may find ourselves reminded of the things around us that are ‘normalized’ but certainly not normal.

Not normal in terms of being connected to nature, to aligning with the natural rhythms, with the innate cycles and patterns all around (and in) us. The crest and the tough of life. We may participate in seasonal activities, but often only when socially encouraged or traditionally expected to do so. Modern society can largely ignore the seasonal aspects of life; we can buy out of season foods, play in warm/sunny locations outside of our local season/temperatures and so much more. But that doesn’t mean our innate biology ignores these codes for life’s flow, inherit rhythm and our connection to larger energetic systems all around us.

For example, participating with screen-based (blue-light) activities just prior to or while going to bed. We know (scientifically-backed and peer reviewed studies show us) the blue-light emitted from computer, TV and cell phone screens causes premature eye damage, imbalanced hormone production, increased mental stress and higher anxiety in those who spend significant amounts of time engaging with these activities. And yet, many of us still continue to make those less than optimum choices daily and frequently without giving it any thought at all.

The seasons, the tides, the animals around us, are all indicators of the specific frequency we’re currently in. Aligning to those frequencies (rather than denying or ignoring them) can provide us with more peace of mind, more clarity to know what’s best for us personally, and what direction we are aligning to in life. Getting clearer with these innate processes can elevate our experience, allowing us to be more gentle and supportive of ourselves regardless of where we are in our journey at any given time. So let’s tune into to our cycles more often. Let’s work to replace ‘normalized’ behaviors removed from nature, and instead replace them with ‘our innate normal’, our true nature.

Roots:

  • In what ways might I begin to recognize and honor my own natural rhythms?

  • What’s one thing I could do this week to acknowledge the current season I’m in and acknowledge the unique aspects of it?

  • Can I challenge myself to turn off all electronic devices at least an hour (or two) before bedtime and instead open myself up to other activities?

    • For example, connecting with my body, doing light yoga or stretching, breath work, listening to calming music (binaural beats, shamanic flute, Tibetan singing bowls, grounding drums, etc), meditation or writing in my journal?

  • What differences have I noticed in my life (mental, emotional and physical) since I started to give more time for myself and my personal cycles?

    • How have I benefited from making this change?
